Still Life an exhibition featuring works
in oil by Walter Meyer and Ben Coutouvidis and works on paper by Hanneke
Benade, as well as featuring selected work on this theme by William Kentridge,
Nicolaas Maritz and Charles Gassner. The works by Walter Meyer are a collection
of flower studies coupled with household objects and pieces of fruit. These
objects of daily use are portrayed in a sensitive and raw manner that has
become indicative of his style from the Bathulie era. Ben Coutouvidis pays
tribute to Hylton Nel by including his ceramics as part of or as a central
feature of his compositions, and Hanneke Banade's exhibits six exquisite
drawings of pairs of shoes.

Still Life Preview: Walter Meyer
Kalk Bay Modern is privileged to introduce three superb still life artists. There is something so simple yet undeniably appealing about still life compositions which remain universally accessible. Our featured artists in oils are Walter Meyer and Ben Coutouvidis, while Hanneke Benade's pastels on paper compliment beautifully.
"The quality of light in most works borders on perfection." Lize van der Watt, Vuka
"He conveys the sense that something simultaneously physical and psychological is being revealed: that this is how it is, not just how the artist sees it." Ivor Powell, The Weekly Mail
